Native American Day Oct 13

Today, on National Native American Day, we take time to recognize, honor, and celebrate the rich histories, diverse cultures, and profound contributions of Native American communities across the United States. It’s also a moment to reflect on the unique challenges these communities face—challenges that are too often tied to systemic inequities, historical trauma, and barriers to health and wellness.

At Just Living Recovery, our mission is deeply rooted in creating safe, affirming spaces where healing can happen for everyone—especially those in historically marginalized communities.

We know that BIPOC individuals, including Native Americans, are disproportionately impacted by substance use disorders, mental health struggles, and barriers to recovery resources. This reality strengthens our resolve to ensure that our programs and services are accessible, culturally respectful, and designed to meet people where they are.

Standing With Native and Indigenous Communities

Recovery is not one-size-fits-all. We acknowledge that for many Native Americans, the path to healing often includes honoring cultural traditions, spiritual practices, and community connections. Just Living Recovery supports these approaches by fostering an environment where residents can embrace their heritage and identity as part of their recovery journey. We actively listen, learn, and adapt to provide care that respects cultural values while addressing the complex realities of addiction.

Our Commitment to BIPOC InclusionOur dedication to BIPOC communities means more than words—it’s a daily practice. This includes:

  • Representation: Ensuring leadership, staff, and volunteers reflect the communities we serve.

  • Cultural Awareness: Providing ongoing training to understand and address the unique challenges faced by BIPOC individuals in recovery.

  • Equity in Access: Working to remove financial, social, and cultural barriers so everyone has the opportunity to heal.

A Shared Journey Toward Healing

National Native American Day reminds us that recovery is not just about overcoming addiction—it’s about restoring dignity, reclaiming identity, and reconnecting with community. Just Living Recovery stands alongside Native, Indigenous, and all BIPOC communities in that journey.

We honor the resilience of Native American peoples and remain committed to building a future where every person—regardless of background—has the support, respect, and opportunity they need to thrive.

Because when we heal together, we grow stronger together.
